Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them. (John 7:37)
Our culture would like us to believe that there is something out there that will satisfy us and make us happy. For some reason that eludes us. God designed us to experience pleasure. Our problem is we seek it in the wrong places.
After they crossed the Red Sea, the Israelites were led into the wilderness. They began to get thirsty and when they found water, it was unfit to drink. They began to grumble and Moses intervened for them, and through a miracle God made the water clean.
They discovered that God was the only one who could satisfy their thirst. God made them aware of their thirst and led them to water that could not satisfy. Only when he intervened was the water able to satisfy. God used bitter circumstances to reveal their heart and to help them grow in their faith.
