For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form. (Colossians 2:9)
Authors Robert Bowman and J. Ed Komoszewski authored a book called Putting Jesus In His Place. They use the acronym HANDS to show that the New Testament taught and the early church believed that Jesus was God.
H = Honors: Jesus shares the HONOURS due to God
A = Attributes: Jesus shares the ATTRIBUTES of God
N = Names: Jesus shares the NAMES of God
D = Deeds: Jesus shares in the DEEDS that God does
S = Seat: Jesus shares the SEAT of God’s throne.
Jesus possesses all the attributes of God in the same sense and to the same extent as the Father. The fullness of deity dwells in the human Jesus. He is the spitting image of his father.
Jesus existed before he was born. He was sent from heaven by the Father to this earth.
Jesus has always been there. He was there with his people in the Old Testament. He delivered his people from Egypt, journeyed with them in the wilderness, and sent them prophets when they strayed. He was there before Abraham was born. He goes even further back. He was there before the creation of the universe.
When Jesus came to earth he did not stop being God. However, he laid aside the privileges of deity and chose to experience life as we do so he could bring us salvation. This is the God we are called to love and worship with all our hearts.
