To know the truth, we have to understand the lies. There are three lies that are prevalent either in our culture or in the church.
Lie #1 – Life can have meaning without God. However, meaning has to come from without, or come from within. In the Christian worldview life has meaning as defined by our creator.
Lie #2 – The most important thing in life is to follow your heart. However, the Bible never tells us to follow our hearts because our hearts deceive us. Our hearts were designed to follow Jesus, not lead us. The most important thing in life is to know the good news about Jesus, which is the gospel. This gospel is portrayed in the ordinances of the church – baptism and the Lord’s Table.
Lie # 3 – I don’t need to attend church to worship God. However, while it is true we don’t need to go to church to be a Christian, it is also true that we should value and love what Jesus values and loves, which is the church. Decreasing attendance does not result in increasing devotion. Solitude is a gift from God, but isolation is a tool of the enemy. We are not to forsake assembling together.
